About the artwork
This picture is about a wonderful, beautiful, clever and brave chap called Alex.
As you've already noticed, he's a parakeet.
And sadly, he's no longer with me now...
HE has lived a long and adventurous life.
We were both born in Russia. And we travelled together sometimes.
He flew with me and his parrot-wife on a plane from Vladivostok to St. Petersburg. It was a long 13 hours, and we had to change planes in the Siberian city of Irkutsk... In winter... 2 takeoffs and 2 landings...
All the time of the flight the loving couple was in a little cage hidden on my chest in my fur coat.
His amazing story cannot be conveyed in a few words.
There was love and drama in his life. He loved, started a family and lost the one he loved. And that love was real. He was very brave, even though he was very small.
He was indeed a magnificent parrot, noted for his courage, intelligence, sense of humour and knowledge of human psychology.
He knew how to make himself respected as well as listened to his opinions. Sometimes he would bow his head in a very amusing way as he listened to me.
Sometimes I thought he was laughing at me. And he was laughing...
And sometimes I could see approval or a direct reproach in his eyes...
He was a bright and unique person. He was a combination of the incompatible... He was a bright personality and a cheerful friend.
His true beauty is hard to convey... But I've tried...
